Pink beach

The Bahamas archipelago consists of more than 700 islands and coral reefs, most of them uninhabited. The many kilometers of beaches on these islands constantly appear on lists of the best beaches in the Caribbean, and indeed around the world. But the most attractive of them are the unique beaches with pink sand. On these beaches, your vacation will become especially romantic, not only because of the amazing beauty of these beaches, but also because of their sufficient privacy. There is a high probability that experienced tourists and travelers have already visited these beaches. The famous Pink Beach on Harbor Island is considered to be one of the most photographed beaches in the world.

The origin of pink sand
When corals, shells and calcium carbonate left over from marine crustaceans are ground into tiny particles and microscopic single-celled foraminifera are added to the mixture, the result is pink sand. Foraminifera live under corals, and of the 4 thousand species, only a few are distinguished by their bright red shell, which gives a pink tint to the white talc, which is abundant throughout the Bahamas. Although foraminifera live among the coral reefs of most of the Bahamas, beach sand turns pink only when enough of it is carried ashore by currents.

Harbor Island Pink Beach

Perhaps the most famous of all pink sand beaches in the world, Pink Beach is located on the east coast of Harbor Island. Its second name is the Island of Pink Sands. Its length is about 5 km of fine powdery sand of orange-pink color. This stunning coastline is constantly on the list of the best beaches in the Caribbean.

Harbor Island can be reached by ferry from the northern coast of Eleuthera, with direct flights from the capital of the Bahamas, Nassau. There are only a few resort hotels here, but exclusive resort complexes such as the 8-hectare Pink Sands Resort provide the opportunity to enjoy a beach holiday from dawn to dusk.

The island of Eleuthera also has pink sand beaches that adorn the long, elongated coastline on both sides of the island: the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea. At the northern tip of the island, 3 km from the town of Gregory Town, lies Surfer Beach - a paradise for surfers. And on the opposite side of the island, at the southern end, you will find Lighthouse Beach, so named because of the majestic lighthouse rising above the waves. The sand of both beaches has a pinkish tint.

French Leave Beach is located near the administrative center of Governor's Harbor Island, not far from the airport. The French Leave Resort complex awaits you there, but apart from this complex the coast is almost deserted.

Pink Beach on Cat Island

To the east of Nassau lies Cat Island. It is only 77 km long, but is considered the highest point in the Bahamas. Near the town of Port Howe on the south-eastern end of the island, Greenwood Beach is a pink sand beach that is almost 13 km long and gives its name to the Greenwood Beach Resort. This beach is ideal for sunbathing and snorkeling during the day, and after sunset there is an exciting crab hunt. Aside from Greenwood Beach, Cat Island is famous for its beaches of light cream fine sand and shallow waters.
