How to get to the beach?
1 – Get there by car
You can get to the beach by car from anywhere on the island, just keep in mind that some of the road consists of natural soil. However, this should not cause you any complications along the way. The main car park is close to the center of Papagayo, but there is a nominal cost of three euros to drive into the Monumento Natural de los Ajaches.
2 – Waterway
One of the most attractive options is to take a boat taxi from the nearby resort of Playa Blanca. The boat “Princess Yaiza” sails four times a day, leaving people in Playa de Papagayo and collecting those who want to go to the beach. Fast transportation of tourists from shore to beach will bring pleasure to lovers of boat trips.
3 – Hiking
If you decide to walk to the beach on your own, there is a great path that will suit your taste. Leaving Playa Blanca and walking along the beach, you come to a rocky cliff next to Sandos Papagayo Beach. You can climb the steep cliff if your physical capabilities allow, just be careful, the rocks are very slippery. If you don't want to take the risk, an alternative option is to go to the front side of the Beach Resort (opposite the beach), which is a little longer but much safer. Either way, once you've completed this journey, you'll be in awe of the beauty of the island's coastline. The distance from Playa Blanca to the beach in Papagayo is about 750 meters.
4 – Playa Mujeres
Located southeast of Playa Blanca, the first Papagayo beach you'll encounter is Playa Mujeres. This is in many ways the quintessential beach holiday - a long expanse of golden sand and coastline. Playa Mujeres is the widest beach on the island.
If you are tired of walking along the golden sand, you can take your own car. This beautiful stretch of sand has plenty of room for everyone to enjoy. In the summer, this means that Playa Mujeres attracts more sunbathers than other beaches.
The downside to this wonderful beach is that Playa Mujeres may lack landscape for some lovers of colorful scenery. It's really just a wide, long expanse of sand. Apart from this, it is considered one of the best beaches in Papagayo for sunbathing and swimming. Playa Mujeres is the most accessible of all the beaches, but not as interesting as the others.
One feature of interest is the curious circular building to the north. This is an old kiln that was once used to heat local stone and produce lime.
