Holidays in Barbuda
Barbuda is chosen by those who want to combine modern luxury with ecotourism, and the Caribbean lives up to expectations by two hundred percent. Pink and white sand sparkling in the sun, gentle transparent waves, sparsely populated areas - even a short stay on the coast allows you to be saturated with the energy of the sea. However, tourists thirsting for a drive will not be disappointed; all the luxury of resort entertainment is at their service: themed cruises on “filibuster” schooners, exploring underwater beauty with diving equipment or from the portholes of a bathyscaphe, tropical jeeping, yacht excursions, cycling, catamaran rides and water skiing, exciting helicopter flights.
Guests will find bars and restaurants dancing to sparkling rhythms, luxury hotels and more democratic complexes, a golf course, cricket, casinos, souvenir shops selling intricate items made of shells and wood, and twisted bottles of local rum. Despite the fact that the famous drink is sold everywhere, appearing fairly drunk here is equated to a violation of order.
The nature of Barbuda
The fauna is richer than in neighboring Antigua, plus the small population contributes to the preservation of natural heritage. From the first minutes of your stay in Barbuda, you can’t help but feel that a fairy tale has come to life – the abundance of greenery and fantastic flowers both in the town itself and in its uninhabited territories is so amazing.
Codrington Lagoon Nature Reserve is home to numerous families of frigatebirds. Watching the graceful close relatives of pelicans is a pleasure, so excursions to their habitat are always in demand among tourists. The lack of fresh water did not affect the rich vegetation, but there are practically no mammals on Barbuda. What cannot be said about turtles, exotic birds and strange lizards. One can talk endlessly about the wealth and beauty of the underwater world of the coast of Barbuda.
Attractions in Barbuda
The main goal of visitors is the sea, beaches and related entertainment. However, it is advisable to take time for professionally organized excursions, since the history of the island is impressive. In the coastal eastern part of Barbuda, artifacts of distant ancestors were discovered, and now you can look at well-preserved ceramic products, the age of which is estimated at thousands of years. Traditionally popular are the ruins of the Codrington House castle, erected at the end of the 17th century and damaged during a large-scale earthquake, the two-hundred-year-old Martello Tower, the Government House, and the original folklore festival Caribana.
The doors of the art cafe, organized by the writer Frank Clare, are open all year round. The lady creates beautiful products - she paints silk items and sells them for a symbolic price. Guests are offered a tasting of seafood delicacies, succulent dishes from pork, lamb, venison, local exotic drinks, freshly brewed excellent coffee, and an abundance of aromatic fruits. The hostess introduces you to the history of the island, and after dark you can order a secluded picnic under the velvet Caribbean sky.
The coast of Gravenor Bay offers an incomparable panorama - many snow-white beautiful yachts rocking on the bluish-turquoise waves. In the western part of the bay, the small private airport Coco Point Lodge is of interest, offering air rides, and a little to the north there is a picturesque lagoon with the best beach on the island.
