The Islands of Endless June - this is how George Washington described the fabulous archipelago almost three centuries ago. And today, snow-white beaches, warm azure waters of the Gulf Stream, the sun that does not disappear three hundred and twenty days a year, an extravaganza of colors and fantastic leisure remain unchanged components of a vacation in the Bahamas.

The Commonwealth of the Bahamas, where hordes of tourists flock all year round, is located in the Atlantic Ocean between the Florida Peninsula and freedom-loving Cuba. The state as a whole occupies 250 thousand km², but the land area is much smaller - about 13 thousand km². During an air trip, you can see all 700 islands (Andros, Grand Bahama, Eleuthera, Great Inagua, New Providence, etc.), a scattering of coral reefs, and many clear lakes communicating with the sea surface.
The population of the state (almost 354 thousand people) lives, with rare exceptions, on the islands of Grand Bahama and New Providence, on the latter the capital of the commonwealth, Nassau, is located. The most geographically large is the island of Andros.

The cuisine will satisfy the most sophisticated gourmets - if desired, it is easy to enjoy sea snails, buns stored in containers with scalding sand, guava pudding, and seafood delicacies. Tourists who are not ready for culinary experiments will be treated to a traditional menu of European, Oriental, and French cuisine.
Nature of the Bahamas
The lack of fresh rivers has affected the fauna of the island - there are no endless impenetrable jungles entwined with vines here. However, the vegetation can hardly be called poor - the archipelago is literally buried in flowers. In the north-west, unusual-looking Cuban pines rise, evergreen tropical forests, mango and coconut groves spread out, shrubs with bright inflorescences are fragrant, and closer to the south of the archipelago the kingdom of cacti and drought-resistant plants begins. The dominant crops are agave, orange tree, pineapple, and sugar cane plantations.
The main representatives of the animal world are numerous species of lizards and bats; blue and humpback whales are found off the east coast, and Atlantic dolphins are frequent guests. In one of the twenty-five protected areas - the National Park on the island of Inagua - more than 50,000 flamingos found shelter, considered living symbols of the commonwealth.
Attractions Bahamas
From the observation deck about. Eleuthera offers a unique sight - the waters of the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean, contrastingly different from each other in color, almost touch. The border between them is only the “thread” of the isthmus. It is advisable to visit another island - Harbor - because there is an intriguing beach with incredible pink sand. The island of Andros has a lot of wild places that attract extreme sports enthusiasts. However, walks through grottoes and underwater caves, although exciting, are unsafe - it is better not to take risks without experienced guides and instructors.
An indelible impression is guaranteed from the original Caribbean Music Festival, traditionally held in May-June. In Nassau, it is worth visiting the ceremonial pompous processions, the three-hundred-year-old active cathedral, the ancient fort of the 18th century, climbing the 65-step stone staircase named after Queen Victoria, visiting the Pirates Museum, taking an excursion to the branded perfume factory Fragrance of the Bahamas, to create your own scent.
When is the best time to go to the Bahamas
Holidays on the islands of endless summer are pleasant in any season. However, the most comfortable months for travel are from November to May - this way the traveler will avoid the rainy season with short but heavy rainfall. The water temperature in winter does not fall below +23˚, in summer – +27˚, the average annual air temperature is +26˚.
