The excellent descriptions of Anegada Island used in tourist brochures are not an exaggeration. Twice the northernmost of the vast Virgin Islands and the chain of Lesser Caribbean Islands, this miniature pearl in the Caribbean leaves a bright exotic mark and a whole range of fantastic impressions in the hearts of travelers.

The sunken island, this is the translation of Anegada, is more than compact - the area is 38 km². In a couple of hours of a leisurely walk you can find yourself on the opposite coast of the island, since its width does not exceed 5 km. It is quite flat - it rises only 8 m above sea level. It differs from other identical islands in origin - coral, not volcanic. From the island of Virgin Gorda to the picturesque Anegada it is just over 30 km.
Almost the entire coast of the wonderland is surrounded by the large Horseshoe Reef - the third largest reef in the world, almost 30 km long. The population is about three hundred people; the capital of the territory is the settlement of Settlement.
Rest on Anegada
Despite the isolation and remoteness of Anegada, travelers can expect excellent service, decent service, and developed infrastructure. Not surprising, since tourism is the main “breadwinner” of the islanders.
Golden-white beaches, many kilometers long, where you can relax under carved palm trees and spreading wild grapes, crystal clear water, bars and restaurants - all this will certainly be appreciated by people who prefer spending time on the beach. It would be a sin for romantics to ignore the chances of touching real pirate frigates - two hundred corsair schooners found eternal rest near the shores of the island. Moreover, it’s possible to take pictures underwater with ancient cannons and anchors embedded in the coral. For extreme sports enthusiasts who love diving, a picturesque and colorful underwater world awaits, and generous sea fishing will not disappoint the most avid fisherman. Those wishing to escape from the idle bustle will be pleased with the coveted peace of the quiet, cozy Anegada Harbor.
The cuisine is predominantly seafood, but if you wish, you can easily order more familiar dishes instead of lobster and cuttlefish.
Nature of Anegada
As soon as the traveler steps onto the island, he finds himself in a wildlife sanctuary, a kingdom of wild orchids and marine abundance. For exotic birds, from majestic pink flamingos to red-billed terns, this is a natural paradise. In natural conditions you can observe turtles and rare, unfortunately, endangered amphibians - rock iguanas.
The fauna is represented by luxurious flowers, mango trees, sea grapes, incense pines, groves of coconut palms, delicate red jasmine bushes that require a lot of heat and moisture. There are hundreds of names of underwater inhabitants: lobsters, fur seals, pipefish, royal strombus, triggerfish, surgeon fish, etc. It is noteworthy that it is possible to see these marine inhabitants very close during a dive.
Sights of Anegada
The island, which has no close neighbors, was popular among the corsair brethren, so it is quite logical to open a Pirate Museum on Anegada. Visitors can be transported back centuries, listening to exciting legends about the adventures of sea romantics and viewing an extraordinary collection of exclusive items raised from the bottom.
Tour groups are regularly formed for excursions to the nearby East End Peninsula. The burial mounds of 1,500-year-old distant ancestors – the warlike Arawaks Indians – were discovered there. In Anegada, it’s easy to rent a jeep and go to a deserted beach or organize a picnic on your own near one of the twenty salty natural lakes.
Those who prefer risky adventures will be delighted with the underwater “promenade”. You can wander endlessly through endless deep cavernous pits, ledges, winding labyrinths of reefs, and fabulous tunnels, never ceasing to admire the azure idyll and the perfection of natural creations.
When is the best time to go to Anegada
The island has a tropical, humid-hot maritime climate. The best time for an excellent trip is from the beginning of December to the end of April, since during this period the weather conditions are the most comfortable for a beach holiday, and prices are slightly lower than in the summer-autumn months. The most precipitation is in September-November, the average summer temperature is +29˚, winter – +23˚.
The number of people who prefer tours to the tiny island of Anegada is growing every year. Magical bliss by the warm, crystal-clear sea, coupled with high-quality service, is guaranteed to make your dream voyage original, wonderful, and unforgettable.
